The welding process generates fumes that are potentially hazardous to safety and hygiene in the workplace. But there are filtration solutions that guarantee a safer and healthier working environment.
According to the type of welding (TIG, MIG/MAG, electrode and others), the material (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and others), the hours worked, the thicknesses, and the prior processes to welding, the generated pollutants determine one choice of filtration rather than another.
Occasional work, especially TIG welding, in which fumes generation is usually limited, allows the use of classic cartridges such as polyester or anti-static polyester.
More intensive processing with carbon steel wire welding, with significant thicknesses and therefore a greater presence of released fumes, requires more effective filtration, and so we switch to cartridges, still in polyester or anti-static polyester, but with Teflon coating, which facilitate the release of the pollutant during countercurrent cleaning.
In more intensive and heavy-duty applications, it is recommended to use the Teflon membrane, which ‘waterproofs’ the cartridge and ensures maximum particle detachment during air-compressed cleaning. It should be pointed out, that the choice of fabric must find the right balance with the filtration speed. In fact, between a TIG welding of carbon steel on 2 mm thickness and a MIG welding of stainless steel on 10 mm thickness (remember carcinogenic fumes), the filtering choice parameters could be quite different.
The choice of capture is crucial to remove the pollutant near the operator, but we do not underestimate how we filter these fumes. Making both working and outside environment healthy remains one of our priorities.
