Welding fumes must be extracted at the source to prevent them from reaching the operator’s respiratory system or dispersing into the work environment.
The most commonly used equipment to achieve localised extraction of welding fumes can be benches, articulated arms, hoods, extraction torches and mobile fume extractors.
The choice of the type of equipment to be used depends on the customer’s needs and the size, weight and quantity of the parts to be welded.
For example, if there are small parts to be welded, it is advisable to use extraction benches that, being equipped with extraction on the work surface and front wall, allow smoke to be extracted directly from the work surface and through the use of accessories such as side and top panels, which prevent the spread of smoke into the surrounding areas.
In addition, if the component requires small sanding operations, the bench is equipped with a dust collection drawer that allows the type of work to be carried out without having to change stations and avoiding the dispersion of dust into the environment.
In these cases GEF suggests the BC cartridge bench.
The bench can be associated with a centralised extraction system equipped with filter and fan, or a bench complete with filter and fan can be used for a single workstation.
In the case of centralised systems, with several extraction points made up of several capturing elements, a single extraction line is realised which is connected to a single cartridge filter with corresponding fan and single expulsion line.
The electrical panel associated with the filter can be equipped with an inverter and deprimometer that control the extraction as a function of the quantity of extraction points used, allowing the optimisation of energy consumption.
The size of the filter and the power of the fan are chosen according to the quantity of extraction points connected and the pressure drops generated by the corresponding extraction and expulsion line.
